Jeremiah 32 -Daily Devotion & Meditation on the Word of God

Hello My Friend; Good day. Happy Dr. MLK's Holliday

We thank God for Dr. King's life, hard work, obedience, faith, vision, dream, and unyielding commitment to the cause of social justice. Dr King would have turned 80 by now. How we love him and cherish his memories!!!

Our reading for today is from Jeremiah chapter 32. The events of this chapter occurred between 587 and 586 B.C. while the Babylonians were besieging and trying to tear down Jerusalem. At the same time Jeremiah was in custody in the palace of Zedekiah, King of Judah because of his harsh prophetic utterances against Judah and Jerusalem. Like Jeremiah, Dr. King prophesied against the injustice that was done against the Blacks and the poor minorities in America. Hatred and violence always accompanies such reprimand for lack of justice. God instructed Jeremiah to purchase a land in the outskirts of Jerusalem even though that land was already occupied by the invading enemy soldiers.

Jeremiah had to obey it because God said so. How do you like to obey God to do something which is against your best human judgment? But read verses 14-15. God said in the future the paper for this land will become valuable. Go back and read Jeremiah chapter 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." Any investment directed by the Lord is for your future good. Even giving your tithes is an investment in the Kingdom of God. Remember that my Friend that "Faith is not God giving me power to be all I want to be, but God giving me power to be all He wants me to be" Proverbs 29:18 says that without a vision, the people perish. Jeremiah had a vision that God's people will be restored to Jerusalem and Judah after 70 years in captivity.

Dr. King had a vision that some day there will be justice and racial harmony in America. That dream/Vision is now being fulfilled and by God's special grace, Barack Obama will be installed as the First Black President of the United States of America tomorrow, January 20, 2009. Talk about dreams fulfilled and visions realized!!! Hallelujah. Amen.

Prayer for today:

Adapted from verses 40-42: Dear Lord, let your covenant be permanent with your people and never again desert them, but only do them good. Put a desire into our hearts to worship you so that we never leave you to worship other gods. Please Lord; let it be your joy to do us good as your Word has promised through the merits of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Apostle Ndueso Udoiwod.
